Description:

The Department of Psychology at Binghamton University (SUNY) invites applications for an assistant professor position (tenure-track) in human neuroscience to begin Fall, 2013.

The Psychology Department comprises 31 faculty in three graduate programs of Behavioral Neuroscience, Clinical Science, and Cognitive and Behavioral Sciences. We seek a new faculty member who can span these programs. Faculty within the Behavioral Neuroscience program investigate neural development, alcohol/drug abuse, plasticity, memory, sensory coding, stress, and animal models of neurodegeneration. The research strengths of the Clinical program include the psychopathology of anxiety disorders, depression, and schizophrenia, the treatment of autism spectrum disorders, as well as research on marital dysfunction, hypnosis/dissociation, and alcohol abuse. The Cognitive program has current strengths in language processing, visual perception, learning and memory, cognitive development, categorization and executive function. Magnetic resonance imaging facilities are available at nearby universities. More information about the department is available at our website.

Requirements:

We seek an individual with a strong research record in affective, cognitive, and/or social neuroscience. Within this broad area, some research specialties are of particular interest: (a) the influence of affect on cognition (or vice versa), and (b) systems neuroscience approaches to psychopathology, developmental disorders, personality disorders, or neurodegenerative diseases. The successful candidate is expected to establish an independent research program capable of attracting external funding and to contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching.
