| Harris County Psychiatric Center opened in 1986 and
became an operating unit of UTHealth in 1990. UTHCPC is
committed to providing inpatient psychiatric services for
adults, adolescents, and children who suffer from mental
illnesses. UTHCPC serves 7,000 patients annually and
operates 272 beds. UTHCPC serves the needs of patients with
primary diagnosis of schizophrenia, bipolar disorders,
anxiety disorders, dual diagnoses, anger, paranoia,
schizo-affective disorder, personality disorders, adjustment
disorders, and mental retardation.
UTHCPC is an annual training site for over 700 students,
including: medical students, psychiatry and psychology
residents, nursing students, pastoral care, social work, and
other clinical students. The psychiatric physicians are
faculty members from the Department of Psychiatry and
Behavioral Sciences at UTHealth and direct the research
activities at UTHCPC. Current research topics focus on
schizophrenia, depression, and bipolar illnesses.
The COO will be responsible for day-to-day management and
operations of UTHCPC and its 407 full-time employees. The
COO will partner with the Chief Medical Officer and Chief
Financial Officer to ensure UTHCPC’s goals and objectives of
teaching, research, clinical care, and community service are
successfully achieved. The COO will report to the Executive
Director and will help in the formation and implementation
of long-range and short-term strategic plans for UTHCPC. The
COO will lead the operational activities of UTHCPC in
accordance with UTHealth policies, goals, and objectives,
and the COO is responsible for assuring UTHCPC’s behavioral
health mission is carried out through the delivery of
quality patient care which meets patient and community needs.
