Animal Models

Important Notice: The Forum does not endorse any medical product or therapy. ALL medications and supplements should be taken ONLY under the supervision of a physician, due to the possibility of side-effects, drug interactions, etc.

Animal Model: Rat 24 hour Maternal Deprivation on Post-natal Day 9
Preparation Type: Developmental Preparations
Gating: Disrupted PPI, Effect develops after puberty.
Molecular/morphological signature: Males only: neuronal degeneration and increased GFAP+ cells in cerebellum; neuronal degeneration and increased astrocytes in hippocampus Both sexes: altered cannabinoid receptor expression in hippocampus; increased plasma glucocorticoid levels; increased levels of 5- HT in the prefrontal cortex, hippocampus, and striatum (some changes sex dependent); increased levels of DA in the prefrontal cortex and striatum
Response to APD: Haloperidol reverses PPI deficit.
