Abstract
I like this study, as it nicely combines genetic studies of NMDA receptor encoding genes with the role of potential environmental factors (in this case, measured by HSV-2 seropositivity) in disease pathophysiology. Such studies are few, to date, even though it is certain that the response to infection is strongly determined by our genetic make-up. But, how is this interaction occurring? This should be a topic of very interesting follow-up experiments, assuming that this pathophysiological-genetic interaction can be recapitulated in an in-vivo or in-vitro model.
